Our Trip to New York City

When I created this blog I intended for it to be a journal of our kids, but I decided to make an exception for this particular post.  Justin and I got just back Sunday night from our 6-day trip to New York City.  With baby number 4 on the way we knew this was going to be our last couple's trip for quite a while, so we made the most of it and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

The lobby of our very hip hotel

The view from our hotel room window

The main reason we went was because Justin had a work conference there, and they put us up in a very nice hotel-- nicer than any place we would ever stay at.  But we didn't spend very much time there because we were so busy enjoying all that the city has to offer.  Like the fabulous food:

The best ravioli I've ever had at Il Posto

Fabulous cupcakes from the famed Magnolia Bakery-- I'm still dreaming about that frosting!

The most incredible chocolate desserts I have ever indulged in, at Max Brenner's.

We also ate at Spice Market, Bar Americain, Rosa Mexicana, Junior's (famous for their delicious cheesecake), to name just a few, and ate New York's famous slices of pizza several times.  I was in foodie heaven!

We walked off some of those calories by checking out all of the great sights:

This was the closest we got to the Statue of Liberty because it was just too, too cold to ride a ferry!

From Battery Park

Near Ground Zero

We saw so many beautiful old churches (this one is Trinity Church)

We spent a lot of time in the areas around Times Square because our hotel was right smack dab in the middle of it.

Times Square at Night

And during the day

This is one of about 150 pictures taken while we were walking.  I had to tease Justin a little because he snapped random pictures of the cityscape about every 5 seconds.  I think we have pictures of the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building from every possible angle!

Enjoying one of New York's finest hot and crusty bagels at Grand Central Station

At Washington Square Park

We also saw two great Broadway shows, shopped at countless fabulous shops, saw a taping of the Jimmy Fallon show and went to two concerts.  And of course, we couldn't go to New York without spending time with Matt and Emily, who live in Queens.

We did venture onto the subway once, but only because we had our own personal tour guide

At Madison Square

It was great to hang out with Matt and Em (this was taken on 34th Street)

A very special thank you to Grandma and Grandpa Allen, and cousin Hilary for staying with our kids while were gone.  This trip would not have been possible without you, and it made it all the more enjoyable to know that they were well taken care of.  Thank you!

So jealous you went to Magnolia bakery. I think we need to buy the cookbooks and try to recreate them ourselves! Or, you know, go to NYC together sometime. Ahhh, the foooood!

Looks amazing, Lisa. So happy that you and Justin had this great trip before the baby comes. Can't wait to see you in a couple of days.
